Amsterdam launched a special underground parking lot for sci-fi bicycles

Last month, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, built an underground parking lot for bicycles beside the largest railway station in the city, which can accommodate up to 7000 bicycles.

Since the bicycle boom swept through Europe and the United States, there have been constant calls for accelerating the construction of bicycle infrastructure. Europe and the United States are also speeding up the division and construction of bicycle lanes, vehicle parking areas, and charging facilities for electric bicycles.
Since the number of users of electric bicycles is increasing, the lack of infrastructure construction has also brought many problems, such as disorderly parking, indoor charging, and road riding, all of which have caused hidden dangers to road safety. As the kingdom of bicycles, the Netherlands has the highest per capita ownership in Europe.

"Compared with traditional bicycles, electric bicycles are three times more likely to cause hospitalization in case of injury"
If the bicycle infrastructure is more comprehensive, the use of electric bicycles is much safer. In most countries, the maximum speed of electric bicycles can reach 28 miles per hour, and the maximum speed of most electric bicycles is about 20 miles per hour. However, with the increasing number of electric bicycles, it has a negative impact on the traffic order. As a country where people travel by bike, the first large bicycle parking lot has landed in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The new underground parking lot takes four years and costs $65 million. It extends from the surface to nine meters and can accommodate 7000 bicycles. Before the completion of the parking lot, bicycles piled up in mountains near the railway station, and there was still a large number of semi-abandoned bicycles occupying space. So someone locked bicycles on nearby trees, street lights and road signs, or parked bicycles on concrete slabs, which made the whole situation more chaotic.

After completion, the bicycle will be transferred from the ground to the underground. A data display panel will be placed at the entrance of the new parking lot to see the remaining parking space in the garage and the row of frames of the parking space. Red means full.

The interior space is very large, but the vehicles are arranged in a very neat way. There are two floors up and down. Each bicycle has a separate compartment.

Parking in the garage is free for the first 24 hours, and the cost for the next day is about $1.46. Registration and payment can be made by swiping card or by chip.

The parking lot is dedicated to bicycles, and some shared vehicles are placed in it to avoid need.

Bicycle-type mobile facilities account for more and more proportion in people's travel. The completion of the underground parking lot dedicated to bicycles in Amsterdam symbolizes that bicycles have officially entered the ranks of major means of transportation. According to the official statement of Amsterdam, the second bicycle parking lot will also be opened in February, and the capacity will be expanded to 11000 bicycles.
